Ranking the 12 most stunning college football alternate uniforms of 2017

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, alternate uniforms are an integral part of the college football season nowadays.

Sometimes, the final product is an eyesore from which even the worst of games couldn’t distract you. But several teams this season wore alternate uniforms that were stylish or eye-catching, thanks to a perfect combination of creativity, innovation and a little pizzaz. Plus, when done well, throwback uniforms are spectacular.

Based on aesthetics along with the backstory, here are the 12 best alternate uniforms from the 2017 college football season (and the No. 1 absolute worst).

The Best

Inspired by Pat Tillman’s legacy, these fatigue-looking uniforms also honored members of the military and veterans.

11. Wayne State’s Medal of Honor uniforms

You wouldn’t necessarily think red, white, blue, green and grey would look good together, but these uniforms make it work. Plus, instead of their own names, players had Medal of Honor recipients’ names on the back.

10. Houston’s dark grey and red uniforms

Just look at those helmets.

7. Colorado State’s State Pride uniforms

These are just fantastic. They’re classy and clean, incorporating the state flag without making it an obnoxiously dominant feature.

6. Oregon’s Stomp Out Cancer uniforms

These awesome uniforms were designed by three cancer patients at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland. (Read more about them on FTW.)

5. Notre Dame’s Knute Rockne uniforms

This is how you do a complete, throwback uniform look.

4. Navy’s Blue Angel uniforms

So technically, Navy hasn’t actually worn these yet – it will Saturday against Army – but they’re spectacular.

3. Kansas’ Free State uniforms

Adidas

It’s everything with these uniforms – the popping blue, the sleek red helmets and, of course, the font for the numbers. These are phenomenal.

2. Army’s Climb To Glory uniforms

Again, these haven’t been worn yet, but they’re sleek, stylish and just striking overall.

1. UCF’s Space Game uniforms

If you put galaxies and constellations on your alternate uniforms, you’re going to win in my book. Along with the stunning aesthetics, the uniforms were a hat tip to the school’s role in the space race, as well as its ongoing space exploration. Bravo.

The Worst

Florida’s wannabe alligator uniforms

There is no debating this one. Other alternate uniforms were bland, unoriginal and left much to be desired, but Florida trying to look like actual alligators led to the most hideous uniforms of the season.
