Alabama snuck into the College Football Playoff as the No. 4 seed, and won’t have an easy path through the postseason this year.
After meeting Clemson in the title game both of the past two years, the Tigers and the Crimson Tide will face off in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day in what is sure to be an intense battle.
One of the keys to the game will be Alabama QB Jalen Hurts, who hasn’t taken the strides as a passer that many have expected following his outstanding freshman season.
However, during the buildup to the College Football Awards Show on Thursday in Atlanta, ESPN host Rece Davis weighed in on the sophomore quarterback, saying he has everything you want in a leader of a team:
Rece Davis on Alabama QB Jalen Hurts: “Is he the most polished passer in the country? No, he’s not. But that dude’s a winner. He’s a great athlete, he’s got plenty of arm strength, his demeanor is perfect for what you want in a quarterback and he has the team.”

To be fair, Alabama didn’t need Hurts to be a great passer in 10 of their 12 games this year. He managed to rise to the occasion at Mississippi State and came up short at Auburn, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens at the Sugar Bowl.
His right arm will be perhaps the biggest key to the game, as throwing against Clemson’s defense is a very difficult task.
