Yahoo’s Pat Forde hints at possible meeting between Chip Kelly, Scott Stricklin

Chip Kelly’s name has been linked to the open head coaching job at Florida and the possibility got a little more traction on Monday.

Yahoo columnist Pat Forde was a guest on The Paul Finebaum Show on Monday and said Kelly’s issues with the NCAA when he was the coach at Oregon would not be an issue in this possible move to Florida.

Forde also suggested that Kelly and Florida Athletics Director Scott Stricklin have at least measured one another for possible interest.

“I think there’s a chance Chip and Scott Stricklin may have sat down last week and started doing some discussing to see where each other is,” Forde said. “Not necessarily to make an offer or anything, but to at least explore the situation. I think it absolutely could happen. Will it happen? I don’t know. I certainly think there’s some traction there. I think there’s some interest from Chip.”

Forde’s comments followed those from a Florida insider who said Kelly was gaining momentum for the Gators’ job. Sports agent and Florida insider Darren Heitner tweeted on Monday afternoon that the Gators have grown tired of dealing with super-agent Jimmy Sexton, who represented former coach Jim McElwain and top candidate Dan Mullen, among many others.

Kelly was the Oregon head coach from 2009-12 following a stint as offensive coordinator. He then went to the NFL where he coached the Philadelphia Eagles for three years, and the San Francisco 49ers for one season. He’s currently an analyst at ESPN.
