Will Muschamp comments on South Carolina’s second-place standing in SEC East

It’s been a solid year for the South Carolina Gamecocks, who are currently 7-3 overall with two games left in the regular season.

And, even though they’re done with SEC play with a 5-3 record, they’ve already locked up second place in the SEC East, thanks to a head-to-head tiebreaker over Kentucky.

On his Sunday evening teleconference, coach Will Muschamp said he’s proud of his team’s accomplishment this year, but wants to make sure the Gamecocks do what they can to compete for a division title next year:

With games remaining against Wofford and Clemson, the Gamecocks should at least reach eight wins this year, even if they can’t knock off a highly ranked Clemson squad.

That should put them in a nice bowl game and give them a chance to go for nine wins, which would be a nice record for Muschamp in his second year.

The Gamecocks are trending up, but Muschamp knows there’s still work to be done to get to Georgia’s level and compete for SEC East titles.
