Report: SportsCenter personality Scott Van Pelt getting new deal with ESPN

ESPN has signed midnight SportsCenter host Scott Van Pelt to a new deal, according to a Tuesday article from The Hollywood Reporter.

Van Pelt, who is generally regarded as one of the network’s top personalities, reportedly had his contract extended with another multi-year deal.

SVP’s midnight show is routinely the top-rated program among young men in its time slot, the report noted.

The show has a different, more personalized feel to it than previous SportsCenter shows in its time slot. That developing model seems to be working well for SVP and his crew.

“I was thankful ESPN had enough faith in us to give us the opportunity to try a different type of SportsCenter a couple of years ago,” Van Pelt said in a statement. “I’m equally grateful they felt we had earned this vote of confidence … We tried to outperform our last deal and we’ll try to do the same with this one.”

Van Pelt’s extension comes at a challenging time for ESPN, which has been trying to combat subscriber losses. The network has had to lay off several employees already, and it is expected to let go of 100 or so more staffers after Thanksgiving, the report points out.
