ESPN writer comments on Texas A&M’s interest in Dabo Swinney, Jimbo Fisher

Talk of a potential coaching change at Texas A&M continues, and it appears the Aggies may try to make a big-time splash if they part ways with Kevin Sumlin.

The Aggies are 6-4 on the season but have fallen short in just about every big game. They blew a huge lead to UCLA on opening night before losing games against Alabama, Auburn, and Mississippi State. It looks like 8-5 may once again be a realistic record for the Aggies.

Sumlin does have a 50-25 record as A&M’s head coach, but he is in a string of mediocre seasons after starting hot. The Aggies won 20 games over his first two seasons yet have not finished above .500 in SEC play since 2012. They are currently 3-3 in league play this year with two games remaining.

The expectations and hot-seat talk have continued to grow, and one rumor that dates back to the beginning of this season suggests the Aggies may make a run at Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney if a change is made.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg made a recent appearance on The Opening Drive, and he believes Swinney is not leaving Clemson. It is tough to see Dabo leaving the Tigers coming off of a National Championship and potentially another trip to the Playoff this year.

There was, however, another big-time ACC coach mentioned that Rittenberg has heard interest from. The Opening Drive tweeted his comments:

Trying to snag Fisher would be an interesting move. He has had a lot of success with Florida State, but a lot could change following a rough year like this one. The Seminoles are currently 3-6 with an uphill battle to become bowl eligible.

Either way, it sounds like the Aggies may try and go big on their next hire if Sumlin is out at the end of this year.
