Florida has announced that seven players, including WR Antonio Callaway, have been suspended for the season opener against Michigan.
LB James Houston, OL Kadeem Telfort, DE Keivonnis Davis, WR Antonio Callaway, DL Jordan Smith, DL Richerd Desir-Jones, and LB Ventrell Miller were all announced as suspended Sunday afternoon.
“We have a small group of players that have made some choices that are extremely disappointing,” Jim McElwain said in a statement. “Action has been taken – they have missed some practice and will miss the Michigan game. We will use this as a learning opportunity and we will have some players step up as we move forward.”
Callaway, entering his junior season, has been Florida’s top playmaker at wide receiver the past two seasons. Last season, he led the team in receptions (54) and receiving yards (721), he also was a co-leader in receiving touchdowns (3).
Davis, the next biggest contributor of the bunch, appeared in all 13 games and started five last season.
SDS will update this breaking news story.
