“I never did hear him say he wouldn’t be back in the sport,” Patterson said at Big 12 Media Days, as per Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports.
The two coaches met seven times in their career with Stoops holding a 7-2 record against his counterpart. After the Horned Frogs joined the Big 12, the TCU-Oklahoma rivalry became one of the best in the conference, with all five meetings having been decided by a touchdown or less.
Stoops is only 56 years old and, by all accounts, in great health, so a comeback certainly isn’t out of the question. Alabama‘s Nick Saban continues to roll along at age 65, and Stoops could easily return to practically any job in the country he wanted after a year off from the game.
With Stoops gone from his post at Oklahoma, Patterson now holds the highest winning percentage of any coach in the conference at .738.
