Indiana receiver Simmie Cobbs was arrested Saturday night for refusal to identify, according to documents obtained by Justin L. Mack and Zach Osterman of the Indy Star.
Cobbs was then charged with resisting law enforcement around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The Hoosiers are aware of the incident and released a statement to the Indy Star.
“Indiana University Athletics and the IU football program are aware of the arrest of redshirt junior Simmie Cobbs Jr. We will continue to gather facts, monitor the legal process and take action as the evolving situation warrants.”
Cobbs was suspended for the opening game last year along with several others for not living up to program responsibilities and then broke his ankle in the next contest, causing him to miss the rest of the season.
When healthy in 2015, Cobbs proved to be an effective weapon in the Indiana offense, recording more than 1,000 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
