Al Blades Jr. to keep family tradition rolling with Miami commitment

The Blades legacy at Miami will live on, as four-star cornerback Al Blades Jr. announced his commitment to the Hurricanes on Sunday.

Blades will follow in the footsteps of his father Al, who played safety for the Hurricanes from 1998-2000, and his uncles Bennie and Brian who starred for the dominant Miami teams in the late 1980s.

The 6-foot, 173-pounder committed to Miami two years ago but backed off that pledge after the school fired Al Golden during the 2015 season. The Hurricanes were still considered the favorites to land him given his family history with the program, and Blades picked them over national powers such as Alabama, Florida State, LSU, and Georgia.

Blades is ranked as the sixth-best cornerback in the class of 2018 and is listed as the 37th-best prospect overall on the ESPN 300.
