It might be three months out from college football season, but it’s never too early to start the debate on who has the best team.

Las Vegas sportsbook CG Technology released its projections for win totals this upcoming season, and it’s probably no surprise that Alabama and Ohio State are picked as the top two teams.

In the past five seasons, the Crimson Tide has a 64-7 record and won three national championships, while the Buckeyes have gone 61-6 with one national title. Putting those two at the top seems to be a pretty safe bet.

Alabama, projected to win 10.5 games, lost in the championship game to Clemson last season. Still, as long as Nick Saban is the coach, there doesn’t seem to be much dropoff in talent or expectations.

“They’re always one of the most popular teams. You have the best head coach and best recruiter in Nick Saban,” Frank Yi, lead data analyst for CG Analytics, told Covers.com. “They do bleed a lot of talent this year … They’re an NFL factory, and they’ll find a way to replace that.”

Ohio State had three defensive backs taken in the first round of the recent NFL draft, but, like Alabama, the Buckeyes are annual contenders for the playoff and are tabbed to win 10 games. They have retooled their offense under new coordinator Kevin Wilson, and are looking to pass more this season with quarterback J.T. Barrett, adding a new wrinkle to a team already tough to defend.

“They didn’t make it to the playoff last year, (but) they are always replenishing their talent,” Yi told Covers.com. “Urban Meyer is one of the best coaches in the nation, great recruiter as well, a little bit in that Nick Saban mold.”

Defending national champ Clemson is picked to win nine games.

Projected win totals of top Division I teams from CG Technology:

Alabama 10.5

Ohio State 10

Oklahoma 9.5

Florida State 9.5

Wisconsin 9.5

Southern California 9.5
