Talking season is in full force.
We have folks talking about Notre Dame joining a conference full time, and now, over the last week, there’s been more talk about the potential of Auburn moving to the SEC East.
Chizik explained that he had “been out of the loop,” and he added that he had heard it for the first time this morning.
“In my opinion, it’s not going to happen,” Chizik said. “If it was going to happen, it would have happened when they expanded to 14 teams.
“Geographically, it makes sense. What I will say is that there are a lot of unintended consequences when you start making moves; sometimes it’s monetary. There are a lot of different things that can happen as a result that some people may not having the foresight to, you know, understand … There’s a lot of moving parts that the fan does not see. Just making the schedule — you have no idea with what goes into that with the people at the SEC … I’ll be very hard-pressed to believe that will ever happen.”
Count me as agreeing with Chizik — I just don’t think it will ever happen. Sure, it makes sense, but at this point in the conference, it’s doubtful that it ever takes shape for many reasons.
Chizik resigned from his position as North Carolina’s defensive coordinator earlier this winter, and he’s been spending time with his family and thoroughly enjoying himself.
