SMU (2-3) vs. Tulsa (3-1) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 8
Game Time: 8:00 pm
Venue: Chapman Stadium, Tulsa, OK
Eventually, SMU is going to catch a break and come up with a big moment in a nationally-televised game.
The Mustangs played TCU and Baylor tough for a little while, and then it went back to being SMU and it all fell apart. But the team is playing better than it has for the last few years, and it has just enough of an offense to potentially have a whole lot of fun against a Tulsa D that had major problems against a horribly Fresno State team two weeks ago.
The Golden Hurricane come in rested after their tremendous comeback, double-overtime win over the Bulldogs. The offense is fun and explosive, the defense has been stunningly okay against the pass, and the teams are hitting fewer than half of their passes over the last two weeks.
Can the young SMU running backs grind away enough to settle things down so the Tulsa offense can’t explode? Braeden West and Ke’Mon Freeman have to try slowing the game down and keep the Golden Hurricane offense off the field.
The problem is that SMU just can’t score enough. It’ll be okay, but it won’t be able to keep up the pace as Tulsa quietly goes to 4-1.
