Report: Strong to take over play-calling for Texas defense

Charlie Strong appears to be betting on himself to fix the embattled Texas defense.

The head coach has stripped defensive coordinator Vance Bedford of his play-calling duties, sources told Geoff Ketchum of Orangebloods.com on Sunday.

The 56-year-old head coach is certainly capable of leading a defense, having been a coordinator at South Carolina and Florida before taking the head coaching position at Louisville in 2010.

He definitely has his work cut out for him, though: Texas is allowing 38.3 points per game, ranking 116th out of 128 FBS programs.

The past two games have seen the Longhorns allow over 1,000 total yards and 99 points. With the explosive Oklahoma offense on deck in the Red River Rivalry this weekend, a quick fix was needed, and it appears Strong feels his leadership is the solution.
