Who needs math anyway?
Thanks to ESPN Stats & Info, we can see how small Tennessee’s chance to beat Georgia became after Bulldogs quarterback Jacob Eason connected with wide receiver Riley Ridley for a 47-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The play gave Georgia a 31-28 lead, and it seemed the Bulldogs were primed to hand the Vols their first loss.
The 43-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass from Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs to wide receiver Jauan Jennings on the game’s final play not only provided an amazing memory for Volunteers fans, it also beat massive odds. As you can see below, ESPN Stats & Info said the Vols had a 0.23 percent chance of winning after the extra point following Georgia’s last score.
The lesson? As long as there’s a chance, anything is possible.
