Chad Kelly regrets part in brawl at high school football game

Chad Kelly spoke Monday for the first time since taking part in a brawl Friday at his younger brother’s high school football game in Amherst, New York.

The Ole Miss quarterback raced onto the field to join a melee that started because his brother, Casey, was the victim of a late hit. Chad was restrained before he could join the fracas, but admitted Monday he would’ve acted differently if given the choice.

“If I could have done it different, I definitely would have. I obviously wouldn’t have run out on the field,” Chad said to ESPN’s Greg Ostendorf. “I regret doing it. But at the same time, I’m sure any of us, if we saw a family member out there in need of help, we would’ve come to the rescue too.”

Rebels head coach Hugh Freeze was quick to defend his star quarterback’s actions over the weekend.

Chad has enjoyed another solid season at Ole Miss, throwing for 1,596 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season.

The Rebels travel to Arkansas on Saturday for a massive SEC West showdown.
