Bruce Feldman names 2 former SEC head coaches as potential candidates at Purdue

With Purdue’s decision to fire coach Darrell Hazell, another Power 5 head coaching position is open.

Fox Sports reporter Bruce Feldman penned a list of 12 candidates and he includes two familiar names from the SEC: Lane Kiffin and Les Miles.

As long as the Crimson Tide offense continue to roll, Kiffin will get mentioned for almost every head coaching vacancy in 2016.

Miles, who has stated he hopes to get back into coaching after being fired this season by LSU, is someone Feldman considers a wildcard:

A wildcard here would be if former LSU coach Les Miles really wanted to go back to the Big Ten and would consider this vacancy.

The 62-year-old Miles, a Bo Schembechler protege from Ohio, led LSU to a national title and went a staggering 114-34 but was let go earlier this season after starting 2-2 amid a political mess around Baton Rouge.

Miles would make Purdue nationally relevant from the moment he’s announced and his teams play hard for him. I know he still wants to coach, but who knows how good his coaching options will be this winter. Miles, paired with a well-regarded offensive coordinator, would be very attractive no doubt for many jobs given his pedigree and track record. I think they’d have to make a strong pitch to him that they are committed to competing at the highest level.

Feldman’s full list can be found here.
