Purdue (1-1) vs. Nevada (2-1) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, September 24th
Game Time: 12:00 pm
Network: Ross-Ade Stadium, West Lafayette, IN
Purdue quarterbacks are taking center stage on Saturday – at least former Purdue quarterbacks are.
Austin Appleby is starting for Florida vs. Tennessee, and Danny Etling is getting the call for LSU against Auburn, but it’ll be up to David Blough to show that he really is the best of the bunch against a Nevada defense that can’t stop anything whatsoever.
Check that – the Wolf Pack can’t stop the run, getting torn apart in the first three weeks for almost 285 yards per game. That stats are skewed – Nevada looks great on paper against the pass because everyone is grinding away.
Blough is coming off a 401-yard day against Cincinnati two weeks ago – with five interceptions. And that’s where the Wolf Pack have shine.
The D has to come up with a few takeaways, and the kicking game has to tilt the field. Purdue’s punt return game has been non-existent, and this isn’t an offense built to go on long, grinding marches.
This is it for Darrell Hazell and the Boilermaker program. Win, and with winnable road games at Maryland and Illinois up next, there’s a chance to go on a run. Lose, and the schedule is half empty with three of the next four games on the road.
Blough will tighten up after getting two weeks to prepare. The Boilermaker run defense will get the job done, too.
