Good Morning, Auburn: Birthday boys, another 5-star commit and expect a sunny Saturday

Auburn quarterback John Franklin III (Benjamin Wolk/SEC Country)

Good morning, Auburn. The best way to start your day is right here at SEC Country as we prepare you for everything you need to know about Auburn sports. We’ll share our Good Morning, Auburn, here with you every morning, Monday through Friday.

Top Tiger Tweets

Auburn doesn’t lead many categories in the SEC, but they do top the conference in rushing offense. Through the first three games, the Tigers racked up 785 yards on the ground and six touchdowns (they’re averaging around 260 yards per game). Of course, Auburn’s performance against Arkansas State makes up a large part of those stats. Regardless, they are leading the category (at least for now).

Sophomore running back Kerryon Johnson also leads the SEC with 4 touchdowns. And he’s OK with that.

He’s also apparently hungry a lot. You can imagine he would be with all of that running around, not to mention getting tackled.

And Auburn fans should hope he stays that way.

Happy Birthday, Tigers!

John Franklin III and Antwan Jackson Jr. had birthdays this week (happy belated, fellas!). It seems like Franklin has made lots of friends on the football team, in the athletic department and in Auburn in general. Several teammates wished Franklin a happy day on social media.

As much as he has going on, Franklin took the time to respond to everyone. And it impressed some fans.

Texas A&M players, however, did not care too much about Franklin’s special day. They also don’t care too much for his quarterbacking skills. In their opinion, those aren’t very good. See here:

Auburn has only played three games and the junior college transfer has only attempted nine passes. While he’s a more dynamic player on his feet, the play-calling doesn’t necessarily mean he’s incapable of throwing. Are the Aggies too quick to judge?

Behind the scenes: the meeting room

The meeting room is a special place. Football players and coaches spend a lot of time in a dark room watching, studying, examining and discussing game film. The meeting room also is a place where some pretty funny things can happen.

Earlier this year, senior defensive lineman Devaroe Lawrence told SEC Country that the defensive film rooms were pretty entertaining. The unit gets along well and they hang out a lot outside of the athletics complex, per several players. Lawrence also said that outside linebacker Jeff Holland is often the funniest person in the room.

This video, posted on Twitter late Wednesday evening, however, shows that the entire group is pretty entertaining.

On a sadder note, Shawty Lo, less commonly known as Carlos Walker, was tragically killed in a car accident in Atlanta, but Auburn defensive players paid tribute in the meeting room. It seems like he’d be proud of the performance.

*Performance note: For extra (and free) entertainment, pay attention to pregame warmups. If you watch closely (and sometimes not closely at all) you will probably be pretty impressed with the Auburn football team. Someone in every position group can be caught dancing at one point. Sometimes guys play off each other and when certain songs come on an entire position group can be seen dancing, singing or rapping together. It’s worth paying attention to.

Happening on the Plains

Head basketball coach Bruce Pearl is doing exactly what people thought he would when he was hired — recruit. The Tigers got another verbal commitment on Thursday night, this one from five-star power forward EJ Montgomery.

Pearl is one of those coaches whose players really, really love playing for him. It seems like that trend is going to continue with lots more five-star players.

In other news:

Soccer: Special shoutout to the women’s soccer team for its 3-0 win over No. 12 Florida.

The next game is at Georgia on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.

Track and field: Auburn had a morning conditioning session yesterday. There seems to be a lot of that happening — very, very early in the morning.

Volleyball: Sometimes — this is very rare — coaches let their players blow off some steam before practice with team activities. I’ve been a part of practices where a coach has called off a workout completely in place of a flag football, dodgeball or capture the flag-filled afternoon. Auburn volleyball was lucky enough to have one of those days this week. And it looks like it was a blast.

Friday Prediction Poll

Media and football analysts (myself included) will be making predictions about the outcome of the Auburn-LSU game until kickoff Saturday, but what do Auburn fans think? Who will walk out of Jordan-Hare Stadium victorious?

Ready for the weekend

Just like Auburn’s football team is close to turning a corner on the field, we’re quickly approaching game day. Make sure you head over to the Wellness Kitchen Green space to check out the SEC Nation crew. Don’t forget your creativity, either.

This series has some history with bad weather, but it looks like it will be sunny on Saturday (high of 94 degrees). Should be a another beautiful game day on the Plains!

Get your mind right

Just in case you need something to get you excited for the LSU game, check out these hilarious tweets from @DrunkAubie.

Lastly, Tiger fans. Be careful out there. It’s a dangerous world.
