The Clemson Tigers are 3-1 both straight up and against the spread in their last four ACC rivalry meetings with Georgia Tech, putting up some big offensive numbers in the process. Clemson defends its conference championship of a season ago when it travels to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech Thursday night at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Point spread: The Tigers opened as 11-point favorites, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark (view line updates and matchup report).

Why the Clemson Tigers can cover the spread
The defending ACC champs are 3-0 on the season and coming off their best performance so far, a 59-0 spanking of South Carolina State last week. The Tigers scored touchdowns on their first two drives of the day, led 31-0 after one quarter, emptied the bench from there and still posted the shutout and covered the spread as 53-point favorites.
The stat sheet doesn’t matter against an FCS opponent, but for the day Clemson outgained the Bulldogs by a lopsided 555 yards to 102.
The Tigers opened this season with a tough 19-13 win at Auburn and then beat Troy somewhat underwhelmingly 30-24. But perhaps last week’s performance has them right where they want to be, heading into their conference slate.
Why the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets can cover the spread
The Wreck are also 3-0 this season, following a 38-7 victory over Vanderbilt last week. Georgia Tech struck paydirt on the first play of the game, scoring on an 81-yard catch and rumble by fullback Marcus Marshall, and led 17-7 at the half. The Yellow Jackets then took complete control with a fourth-down stop and subsequent score midway through the third quarter, a potential 10-point turnaround that bumped the lead to 24-7.
The Yellow Jackets outgained the Commodores 511-275 and won the ground battle 289-85 on their way to the cover as seven-point favorites.
Georgia Tech opened its season with a 17-14 win over Boston College in Dublin, Ireland, and then beat Mercer 35-10. So the Wreck have already won as many games this year as they did all of last season.
Clemson has outscored Georgia Tech by an average of 38-23 over the last four meetings, piling up more than 500 yards of offense in three of those games. But even with Heisman candidate quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Tigers are not quite the same team that made the national championship game last season. And yet, thanks in part to public betting perception, they still face stiff spreads.
Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets are not the same team that went 3-9 last year. Clemson might well win this game, but the smart money backs Georgia Tech.
Clemson is 0-5 SU in its last five games on the road against Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech is 1-4 SU and ATS in its last five games on a Thursday.
Clemson is 2-7 ATS in its last nine games on the road.
