ASU's Ballage ties FBS record for single-game TDs

In the biography of Kalen Ballage on the Arizona State team website, the first sentence of his overview states: “Incredible physical specimen that combines power and speed as a runner.”

Ballage proved exactly that when he broke team and conference records in Saturday’s 68-55 victory over Texas Tech.

The junior running back was an irresistible force all night long, breaking the Arizona State record, the Pac-12 record and tying the all-time FBS record for touchdowns in a single game. Ballage’s performance included 13 carries for 137 yards, seven rushing touchdowns, two catches for 48 yards, and one receiving score.

He tied the FBS record for all-purpose touchdowns in a game with a 75-yard run in the fourth quarter, giving the Sun Devils a 64-48 lead at the time. The number of touchdowns Ballage had for his entire career coming into Saturday’s game was nine.

The Twitter world gave its opinion of Ballage’s record-setting performance in a number of creative ways

The record of eight total touchdowns was previously set by Howard Griffith on Sept. 22, 1990 while playing for Illinois.
