The Rebels got some potentially bad news on Thursday morning.
Redshirt junior running back Jordan Wilkins has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2016 season, according to a report from Chuck Rounsaville of the Ole Miss Spirit.
Walton rushed for 372 yards last year and four touchdowns last season. He was competing with senior Akeem Judd for the starting tailback role. Wilkins absence means that former 4-star running back Eric Swinney could also see a larger role in the Rebels offense.
Wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo tweeted this last night, perhaps foreshadowing the news of Wilkins’ suspension.
Can’t believe what happened to Jordan smh

Ole Miss is slated to open the season on Sept. 5 against Florida State. The game will be played in Orlando, Florida.
