Northwestern State at Baylor

7:30 PM, Fox Sports Net McLane Stadium, Waco, TX

All will seem right with the world.

After an offseason of ugliness, scandal, and disgrace, Baylor will look like Baylor on the field with a blowout of Art Briles proportions against a Northwestern State defense that won’t have a prayer of keeping this interesting.

This will be more about the Bears doing what they do against inferior competition while showing that life isn’t going to change too much under Jim Grobe – for now. But first, the offense will roll up well over 700 yards of total offense against a Demon defense that won’t be even close to stopping the run and won’t generate any pressure on Seth Russell.

The Baylor D won’t have any problems with the funky Demon running game that won’t go any long, sustained drives until it’ll be way too late.

Fearless Prediction: Baylor 65, Northwestern State 13
Must See Rating: 5: Any Ryan Lochte interview – 1: Bridget Jones’s Baby … 1.5

Saturday, September 3

Southeastern Louisiana at Oklahoma State

2:30 PM, Fox Sports Net, Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK

This is how you open up a season. Get the machine revved up and ready to roll in a nice and breezy game right out of the gate. Oklahoma State has a firefight to come against QB Cooper Rush and Central Michigan, and then comes Pitt and Baylor.

First, the Cowboys have to get the ground game moving and need to see what they’ve got on defense against a SE Louisiana team that should be able to be more than just a speedbump.

The Lions can play defense, but they won’t be able to keep up any pace and won’t be able to score more than 20 points. As good as SELA is on D, it might give up 21 in the first quarter.

Fearless Prediction: Oklahoma State 52, Southeastern Louisiana 13
Must See Rating: 5: Any Ryan Lochte interview – 1: Bridget Jones’s Baby … 1.5

Rhode Island at Kansas

7:00 PM, ESPN3, Memorial Stadium, Lawrence, KS

Here you go Kansas. Here you are head coach David Beaty. You will finally get a win, and the program’s long, dark, winless nightmare will be over.

Rhode Island will be better coming off a 1-10 season, but the offensive pop isn’t going to be there to challenge a Jayhawk team in desperate need of something fun to happen.

The KU defense will look like a killer for a week, helped by a linebacking corps that’ll stop the Ram rushing attack cold.

The Rhode Island turnover issue of last year will continue with three big mistakes making this a breeze early in the second half. KU will have the luxury of being able to test out several young players.

Fearless Prediction: Kansas 45, Rhode Island 13
Must See Rating: 5: Any Ryan Lochte interview – 1: Bridget Jones’s Baby … 1.5

Stephen F. Austin at Texas Tech

7:00 PM, Fox Sports Net Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock, TX
For those wanting to see Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes take target practice for a half, your wish is about to be granted.

The Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin weren’t able to slow down anyone’s passing game last season, and they’re not even going to come close this year. This is the team that got cranked up by TCU in a 70-7 loss, and while the team got better as the season went on, this is a statistical showcase for the Red Raiders to get everything ready to roll for the trip to Arizona State the following week. Mahomes will complete 19-of-22 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns in the first half.

Fearless Prediction: Texas Tech 52, Stephen F. Austin 24
Must See Rating: 5: Any Ryan Lochte interview – 1: Bridget Jones’s Baby … 1.5

Northern Iowa at Iowa State

8:00 PM,, Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, IA

The fifth-ranked UNI Panthers got rolled by Iowa State in a 31-7 opener last season, but they went on to get to the FCS playoffs thanks to a tremendous defense and great rushing attack. They’ll have another killer ground game and another tough defensive front, but they’re about to be pushed by an Iowa State team kicking off the Matt Campbell era.

The Panthers lived off of turnover margin last season, and they’ll keep it close by going a +2 and taking advantage of the key opportunities. Mike Warren and the Cyclone ground game will take over as the game goes on, while the defensive front will hold firm on two key UNI third quarter drives to change the tide of a tight, fun battle.

Fearless Prediction: Iowa State 30, Northern Iowa 17
Must See Rating: 5: Any Ryan Lochte interview – 1: Bridget Jones’s Baby … 2.5

South Dakota State at TCU

8:00 PM, Fox Sports Net, Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth, TX
The Jackrabbits of South Dakota State started out last year with a win over Kansas on the way to a strong eight-win season, but this time around against the Big 12, it’s not going to be so much fun.

TCU has to get ready for Arkansas, and that means getting newly-anointed starting quarterback Kenny Hill sharp as soon as possible. The Horned Frog defense will look in midseason form against the efficient and effective Jackrabbit passing attack, and Hill will have to work a wee bit early on. The floodgates will open after the first quarter, but SDSU will hold up and keep this from getting too brutally ugly.

Fearless Prediction: TCU 41, South Dakota State 13
Must See Rating: 5: Any Ryan Lochte interview – 1: Bridget Jones’s Baby … 1.5
