Which SEC teams have the best uniforms?
Thankfully, Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports has settled the debate. The media outlet ranked the teams’ uniforms ahead of the season. He cautioned his readers, knowing just how passionate SEC fans can be, even about their teams’ threads.
“Before you get too angry, though, just know that, by and large, I like the uniforms of the SEC,” Fornelli said. “Aside from two teams — who are obviously at the bottom — I don’t dislike any of these looks. Still, there are some I like more than others, so even if your school isn’t in the top five, don’t take it too personally.”
Here is CBS’ ranking:
No. 1 Florida Gators
No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs
No. 3 LSU Tigers
No. 4 Ole Miss Rebels
No. 5 Tennessee Volunteers
No. 6 Auburn Tigers
No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide
No. 8 Arkansas Razorbacks
No. 9 South Carolina Gamecocks
No. 10 Kentucky Wildcats
No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies
No. 12 Mississippi State Bulldogs
No. 13 Vanderbilt Commodores
No. 14 Missouri Tigers
Fornelli wrote about each, detailing why he ranked the schools where he did. Here are his thoughts on his top dog. Or, top Gator.
“There are a lot of SEC uniforms that I like a lot, but none more so than Florida,” Fornelli wrote. “The Gators haven’t really changed their look since the 1980s, and for good reason. They look good. As I’ve said, I like the way orange and blue work together, and they work very well for you.
“You lose me a bit when you go with the all-orange look, but it’s a transgression I can forgive based on everything else you wear. I also love the script Gators across your helmets, and I’ve always been a fan of the Gator logo. It’s just a very good look, and you should be proud of yourselves.”
As for his thoughts on the worst look in the SEC, Fornelli wrote this of Missouri:
“I’m a fan of Missouri’s logo, but man, everything else about these uniforms is awful. Mizzou took a great color scheme to work with, but it’s as if there was a deliberate attempt to make these things as gaudy as possible. Somewhere along the line a golden hue became mustard, and then, in some cases, gray is worked in for reasons unknown. There isn’t a single combination that Missouri has worn in recent years that I enjoy.”
Personally, I like Missouri’s threads. I have no personal rooting interest when it comes to the SEC, but I’m not just a fan of Missouri’s logo, I love it.
Mizzou’s all black and gold look is sharp, with the Tiger logo popping on the helmet in gold.
